Winnipeg’s art scene is absolutely vibrant and growing at a rapid pace. On the first Friday of every month, visitors can check out the exhibits and learn more about art for free! Galleries located in the Exchange District hold ‘First Fridays’, an event which showcases the local talent and encourages visitors to get acquainted with the fantastic art scene of this city. Visitors are encouraged to come down and talk to artists in the studios, attend a gallery opening and look through the local shops. Self-guided maps are available to view and print online up to 10 days before the event. If you do want to spend a little bit of cash, purchase a ticket to the Art Talk/Art Walk, which includes dinner, a guided tour of the galleries and shops as well as a talk by one of the local artists—another way of enjoying First Fridays. Launched in 2010, this program has been running successfully for six years now and shows no signs of slowing down.
