This picnic spot was once used as as a ground for racing, cricket and polo. This picturesque meadow is surrounded by dense forests, and spreads over an area of 121 bighas. Located about four kilometres above the ridge, it is positioned in a deep wide valley of the suburban village called Kaithu, which stands 6,117 feet above sea level. Since the 1830s, this former playground and race-course has been an important centre of amusement and entertainment for Shimla's residents.
