This neighbourhood showcases Singapore's most flamboyant and creative side with a concentration of designer boutiques, quaint and kitschy French patisseries and niche bookstores. The street is lined with the most precious shop-house façades featuring the most stunning old tile-work. Reminiscent of the city as it used to be, these establishments evolved during the colonial era in the late 18th century, and typically house a shop on the ground floor and a residence on the floors above.
