Visiting Saint Mark’s Square and experiencing majesty of the Basilica, Doge’s Palace and Sansovino’s Library is an essential Venetian experience, but it actually is one of the best things to do in Venice. And a great way to lose the crowds of tourists is simply to wander the labyrinth of the city’s ancient backstreets. The winding streets and canals of Venice are so interwoven that you’ll get lost in no time; yes, everybody gets lost in Venice, but that’s precisely what makes it so fun and enjoyable!Venice’s narrow backstreets are confusing as much as they are charming, and wandering off the tourist crowds will unravel the city’s real magic. You’ll stumble upon gorgeous historic churches, colourful houses, cute little courtyards, walls overgrown with vines, bridges over canals so narrow that you could probably jump over them and so much more, and most likely have it all to yourself. Along the way, you’ll pass by restaurants frequented by locals, façades decorated with flowers and small stores. If you see a mind-blowing item in a store, just purchase it there and then because it is highly unlikely you’ll be able to find your way back to the same store again.
