Now open, National Museum of Indian Cinema in Mumbai

The city of Mumbai has a new attraction and one that holds very close to its spirit, the National Museum of Indian Cinema (NMIC). A first of its kind, it captures the essence of Indian cinema, spread over 100 years. The museum will cater to both cinema enthusiasts as well as filmmakers, researchers, film students and critics.

The National Museum of Indian Cinema aims to reflect of India’s socio-economic development through cinema and vies to be a major research centre in the coming years. Here, you will be able to pore over the most noted works of Indian cinema, apart from the technology that has been used and is now in vogue in filmmaking. Enthusiasts will also be able to take a closer look at filmmaking equipment, such as cameras, recording machines, costumes, projectors and more.
Plus, there are thousands of photographs and other exhibits from the gone by eras of Indian cinema. The museum has been built at the behest of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India. Inaugurated this week, it saw the who’s who of the industry apart from Indian PM Narendra Modi.

How to reach the National Museum of Indian Cinema?
NMIC is hosted at the Films Division of India, Mumbai. The museum is spread over two wings of the division—Gulshan Mahal and the New Museum building. This site, in South Mumbai, is well-connected by public transport, easing commute worries of the enthusiasts keen to pay a visit.
