Located on MG Road, the 1857 Memorial Museum is a part of the main Residency building and was set up due to the site’s significance during the First War of Independence. The museum houses old and rare photographs, lithographs, maps and paintings of the major sites connected with the 1857 rebellion, along with portraits of local leaders. Huge cannons, guns, swords, shields, medals, terracotta and crockery items from the bygone era are also on display here. All the artefacts that have been exhibited here were discovered during the excavation in Residency compound. One of the galleries also exhibits archival documents related to 1857, while another houses a diorama recreating the attack of the Resdency. Tip: Mobiles, cameras and ladies purses are not allowed inside.
