Summershall has transformed the former Royal (Dick) Veterinary School into an avant-garde multi-arts venue showcasing everything from provocative sculpture to experimental theatre. The building itself is fascinating; big, old and grand, the long corridors and classrooms have kept many of their schoolroom features, which only adds to the atmosphere. Read less

Former veterinary school turned foremost arts venue
Tipple of choice: Barney's Beer is brewed on site in the original 18thn century Summerhall Brewery.
While there is a constant rotation of photography and art exhibitions spread throughout the building (usually for free), it's the programme of events that most excites us. This is a space for burlesque scratch shows, obscure film screenings and sound installations, as well as more straightforward theatre and gigs. They also host markets, parties and club nights, such as Basement Carousel on the 1st Saturday of every month, which aims to bring the frivolity of festival fun to Summerhall.
