Originating at Langza, this trek is a lovely way to explore life in the high altitude villages of Spiti. A bus leaves Kaza for Langza at 2 pm, and it takes around one hour. Langza is a pretty village with a huge medicine Buddha statue, Chau Chau Kang Nilda snow-peaks in the distance, lush green pea and barley fields and children running around with fossils.
This trek can be done at a leisurely pace spread over 2-3 days with night stops at traditional Spitian homestays at the four villages. That is a wonderful way for travellers to get acquainted with local life. It sure offers a magnanimous amount of solitude, glimpses of wildlife, breathtaking landscapes, thrill of snow-clad peaks and unknown magic of sudden snow when the clouds descend.
Demul is the biggest among these four villages and has a unique homestay system. The villagers have a rotation policy and that enables you to meet more people and experience the unique culture closely. Some families knit socks and shawls with pretty designs and you can buy them for a small price.
