Dolmens

8 Dolmens
All across Yeats’ country, as you criss-cross the winding and undulating roads, flanked by a series of meadows and farms, there’s a surreal sight that will meet the eyes. What look like clumps of stones and bizarre stone structures dot the landscapes. These are actually Dolmens or Megalithic burial sites that are scattered all over the hillside amidst the meadows and farms. It is an evocative reminder of history and silent spectators to passing time, and a bit of an overwhelming experience. Though there is no explicit reference in Yeats’ poetry, it is believed that Yeats would have wandered around these sites and had been definitely inspired by the desolate beauty of the landscape.
