A lovely little town on the west coast of Ireland, Sligo is not too large and sits on the river Garavogue. It is surrounded by mountain ranges of the Dartry range on all sides, the most famous being Ben Bulben, the tabletop mountain. More importantly, this is the land of famous poet WB Yeats and these are places that figure prominently in his poetry. Though Yeats was born in Dublin, Sligo was the town he spent his childhood summers with his brother and artist Jack, where he wandered around, soaking up the beauty of nature only to paint verbal pictures of it in his poetry. Wandering around, it is easy to see the deep impact that the surroundings had on Yeats.
