Given the industrial legacy of the region of Saxony Anhalt, the region has perhaps been slow to make its way onto the traveller’s map. This road-less travelled could arguably be the next big thing in tourism, as the years since re-unification have seen vast transformation. Through dramatic change, the area is quickly becoming hotspot for travellers and conference-makers alike. This year, the 42nd Germany Travel Mart was held in Magdeburg. People involved with all aspects of travel – from writers to members of the travel-trade, turned out in droves to examine what really gives the region its growing edge. And there’s plenty - an abundance of eye-catching gardens, medieval cathedrals, Bauhaus history, and the popular Romanesque route – just beginning this list. Here are a few experiences that are essential for any traveller to the region.
