The country’s only international airport

Noteworthy for: Keflavik International Airport was voted the best airport in Europe, according to the 2009 Airports Council International passenger quality survey.

Word to the wise: The international airport is about a 40-minute drive from the capital. Take the Flybus shuttle to the main bus station BSI, and then transfer to your hotel or guesthouse.

On the heels of a major renovation just a few years ago, the airport is one of the easiest hubs to navigate. With Icelandair the main airline servicing the airport year round (Iceland Express and SAS being the others), everything from travel connections, layovers and finding your luggage is simple and stress free.

With an extensive Duty Free section, not to mention numerous shops such as 66º North and the Blue Lagoon boutique, travellers in transit can grab a piece of Iceland without having to venture outside. For those travellers needing a stiff drink, visit the Panorama Bar before takeoff.
