The Kumbalgarh fort was built by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century and occupied till the 19th century. It still stands tall at a height of 1,100 metres, with a 20 foot thick outer wall that extends for 36 kilometres. There are numerous temples, palaces, gardens, and bunkers inside. Expect splendid views of the surrounding countryside. There is a big wildlife sanctuary next to the fort, with wolves, leopards and sloth bears. Remember to take permission from the forest department in Kelwara to enter.
