Word to the wise: The somewhat bossy dress code stipulates no boardshorts, singlets, work shirts, branded t-shirts, runners, sneakers or fancy dress. After 6pm, you can't wear thongs either, and collared shirts are preferred.

The largest rooftop bar in Perth, The Aviary's "Nest" is like a posh, 500-square-metre backyard furnished with lush trees, day beds and wooden benches. Punters can even indulge in a favourite Aussie pastime on the specially designed bowling green.

Small plates, pizzas and a selection of heartier dishes are available along with a decent selection on wines and bubbly on the terrace, while the more formal "Birdcage" restaurant downstairs offers an Asian-inspired menu. The food is pricey and can be hit-and-miss, but on a sunny afternoon, there's no better place to have a drink in the CBD.
