Khecheopalri Lake

SIGHTSEEING, PELLING Updated : Aug 7, 2015, 03.39 PM IST

KHECHEOPALRI LAKE
Believed to be a wish fulfilling, this lake is originally known as Kha-Chot-Parli, which means the heaven of Guru Padmasambhava. This lake is situated 34 km northwest of Pelling. The lake is surrounded by hills all around and the silence around the lake is extremely captivating and enchanting to say the least. The still and calm waters of the lake transports one to a meditative state, which enriches the mind to an amazingly refreshing and spiritual level. There is a small tea shop outside the lake where people can spend copious amount of time marvelling the beauty of the place. An interesting feature of the lake is that dried leaves seldom float on the surface of this lake and the process of collecting the fallen leaves from the lake are done by birds. The lake is considered as a sacred lake among the Buddhists and the shape represents the footprint of Gautam Buddha when seen from the top. A narrow path with traditional houses of locals decorated with flower pots on the outside as per the custom here leads to this lake. Finally, there is a footbridge of wooden logs adorned by Buddhist prayer flags that paves the way to the mouth of this lake.
