Oslo's best independent bookstore

Talk of the town: Prize-winning Norwegian novelist Per Petterson, whose work has been translated into almost 50 languages, used to be Tronsmo's chief buyer and remains a director.

Once described by Allen Ginsberg as "the best bookstore in the world", Tronsmo has specialized in politics, philosophy, music, art and alternative fiction – including many English language titles - since 1973. The basement houses a legendary comic book and graphic novel department, which hosts small exhibitions of original prints and drawings. The knowledgeable staff are happy to offer help or inspiration.
