The city centre - a hub of culture, history, shopping and entertainment
Noteworthy for: Being Oslo's commercial and cultural centre, this place is a magnet for visitors and locals alike.
Oslo's charming city centre boasts countless museums, galleries and theaters. It's home to several official buildings, such as the City Hall and Parliament, and teems with bars, restaurants and shops.
The main street is Karl Johan, a spacious pedestrianised avenue connecting Oslo Central Station with the Royal Palace. A short walk from Karl Johan is Aker Brygge, a former shipyard redeveloped into a major shopping center and apartment complex. Its seafront boardwalk is hugely popular with locals in the summer.
Unsurprisingly, the city centre bars and restaurants get packed with tourists during weekends, especially in the evenings. Head to Grünerløkka or Frogner for a more authentic experience.
