Stray from Hong Kong’s hackneyed party district around Central and Causeway Bay—a detour (just 20 minutes from Central by taxi) to Sugar Bar.Deck.Lounge in Quarry Bay is well worth the effort. Sleek, modern and uber stylish, Sugar is located on the 32nd floor of the East Hotel in Taikoo, and is probably one of Hong Kong’s best rooftop venues. Decked in neutral shades of beige and cream with elements of wood, the low sofas and ottomans lend a casual vibe to an otherwise sophisticated space. The bar in the centre is covered, while the surrounding deck offers expansive views of east Hong Kong—you get to see the harbour in the distance and the mountains beyond the skyscrapers, introducing you to a side of the island that hasn’t yet made it to the postcards—while ploughing you with some delicious cocktails and a mixture of house and electronic beats spun by the in-house Dj, Eric Byron. Head here for sundowners when you need a break from the concrete further inland.
