The first thing that hits you smack-bang in the face upon entering Red Sky, is the mammoth two-story-high wine cellar which stocks about 2000 bottles, and takes centrestage at the bar. Sitting pretty atop the 55th floor of the Centara Grand Hotel, Red Sky is part of the Central World shopping complex and comprises of two distinct zones—a martini bar (located outdoors), and a wine bar (within). The martini bar is decked completely in mahogany—the floors, table-tops, walls and seating—and offers stunning views of the maze below; come here for a drink at sundown and watch the sun dip below Bangkok’s skyline in a matter of minutes. Moving inside, the wine lounge is bathed in swathes of deep red sharply contrasted against a more sober cream and black colour scheme. There’s usually jazz music strumming in the background, and occasionally even a pianist. While most other rooftop bars in the city are situated at riverside locations, Red Sky elevates you sky-high right in the midst of the concrete—providing a 360 degree panorama of the city.
