Big Mama

The Big Mama is the “Home of the Blues in Rome” since 1984, as they like to define themselves.
Yet another basement club, hidden this time in the most characteristic district of Rome, “Trastevere”.

It’s a great occasion for you to enjoy also a nice stroll in this traditional neighnorood made of old buildings with decadent façades and restaurants offering traditional Roman Cuisine. Trastevere is not far from the Historical center, a 20 minute walk from “Piazza Navona” and “Campo de Fiori”, on the other side of Tiberim River. The club opens its door at 9pm, offering a selection of drinks and food. For your musical entertainment instead you’ll have to wait until 10:30pm when all the power of its musical potential is unleashed. After entering this dimly lit basement, you’ll see that the location is less refined than its Jazz counterparts: don’t be discouraged, and while you have to pay a small fee for a membership card to enter the first time, then you’ll have free unlimited access to the club for the rest of the year!
While the Big Mama is focused on Blues music, it offers also Jazz and Rock concerts to mix his offer. It has hosted during the years world known stars of International level: Tori Amos, Tony Costello, Brian May, guitarist of the Queen, just to name a few. Given the limited space available it might be a good idea to book a table in advance.
