Super secret, super hidden Japanese restaurant in Noho

Popular plate: The rich beef tartare has tiny cubes of diced beef served with greens, a mustard sauce and cheese infused toast.

Word to wise: Reservations are required.

Hidden behind a butcher's shop is a Japanese restaurant seating about 25 people. To get to the restaurant, open the door and walk down 'Basquiat Road' - a hallway named after the artist who died in his loft at this address. (Andy Warhol used to own the building.) On the other side of another door is Bohemian, a small white-walled room minimally decorated with six tables and a smattering of mid-century Danish chairs and couches.

The limited menu specializes in dishes with a Japanese take on continental favorites, such as Wagyu beef burgers, anchovy fondue with veggies, uni croquettes, short rib sashimi and oven-roasted branzini served whole.
