The original pioneering Creole bistro still delivers

Popular plate: The signature barbecue shrimp is excellent, but bear in mind that in New Orleans, 'BBQ shrimp' aren't actually barbecued - they're sauteed in a Worcestershire sauce-spiked butter.

One of the many restaurants in town run by members of the Brennan family, Mr B's was the first of its kind in the early 1980s, and paved the way for the many Creole bistros that now make up much of New Orleans' dining scene.

Inside the imposing frontage you'll find excellent food without formality. The wood-panelled bar is buzzy with locals and sometimes has a live pianist. A popular restaurant, they allow reservations for some tables while keeping others for walk-ups.

Try the Panko-crusted gulf shrimp with hot sauce and beurre blanc, or the excellent crab cakes to start with, then sample any of the excellent wood-grilled fish or chicken, braised rabbit or duck.
