A world-class collection of photographs
The building perched unassumingly at the corner of Chartres Street and Bienville holds extraordinary visual treasures, and is an essential visit for any photo buff. While friendly and knowledgeable proprietor Joshua Pailet may not be impressed to hear it said, this is more of a public gallery than the commercial one it purports to be. Pailet has spent 40 years building a collection of photographic prints, from photography's earliest days to the present, that could rival that of many public galleries.
On the walls expect to find work from early visionaries like Ansel Adams, Henri Cartier-Bresson and Alfred Stieglitz; modernists such as Diane Arbus, Jan Saudek and Annie Leibovitz; and New Orleans photographers including Josephine Sacabo, EJ Bellocq, and Louviere + Vanessa.
