Inspirational art in an inspired building
Word to the wise: Go on a Wednesday for half price admission.
The Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (MALBA) has dedicated itself to the dissemination, preservation, promotion and exploration of Latin American art ever since its founding in 2001. Housed in a purpose built, glass fronted gallery; spacious and luminescent, it is an attraction in its own right.
The work covers almost every movement of the 20th century, in a vaguely chronological order, with pieces by most Latin American masters such as Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. With only 500 works in the permanent collection, it keeps the temporary exhibits fresh and challenging, with frequent cultural events such as art house film screenings, talks and workshops. There is also an excellent bookshop, gift store and cafe.
