5 things to do in Mukteshwar

THINGS TO DO, MUKTESHWAR Updated : Aug 21, 2017, 02.58 PM IST

ziplining at Mukteshwar
Picking fresh peaches and plums from the trees roadside, staying in beautiful camps right in the middle of a pine forest, trekking up to the temple and sitting on a cliff quietly, and ziplining between two cliffs at Chali ki Jali are some of the moments from my Mukteshwar trip in June that I will always remember and cherish. Mukteshwar is a beautiful little hamlet situated in the lap of Kumaon hills at an altitude of 7500 ft. It is an ideal place for a quick vacation away from Delhi. The place has fruit tree plantations that include plum, peaches and apricot. The best way to reach Mukteshwar from Delhi is on road. It is a journey of around 7 hours by car. Here’s the route to be followed: Delhi – Gajraula - Moradabad - Rampur - Rudrapur - Haldwani - Bhowali – Mukteshwar. It’s a beautiful highway drive followed by a drive through pine forests and then through the fruit orchards. Best time to visit this place is in between March and July but if you want to experience snow, plan your visit around January and February. I visited in June and was amused to get the sight of trees loaded with fruits. The taste of freshly picked crunchy and juicy peaches is still fresh in my mouth. There are many options to stay in and around Mukteshwar from camps to budget hotels and boutique properties.
