No words could possibly do justice to the madness of the souks in Marrakech. The labyrinthine alleys of Marrakech’s local markets boast of hundreds of shops selling ceramics, clothes, leather bags, carpets, cutlery, crockery, spices, tea, and everything else under the sun. You name it and they have it. Naturally the souks are the first shopping stop for most tourists visiting Marrakech. The sheer number of shops is bound to leave you confused. So we suggest making a trip just to absorb the chaos. Explore the Potters Souk, the Olive Souk, and soak in the colours of the clothes and jewellery on offer. You can begin shopping once you are accustomed to the sensory overload.

You could probably re-decorate your entire house and re-stock your entire wardrobe with items bought from the souks of Marrakech but alas, suitcase space is always limited. So we suggest making a beeline for purely Moroccan things―babouches (brightly coloured leather slippers), djellabas (local dress worn by ladies), olives from the Atlas mountains, silver and brass platters, and Moroccan rugs. Make sure you bargain a lot―most shopkeepers quote extremely high prices at the beginning but are willing to sell the item for a much lower price, if asked.
