Fun and entertainment for the whole family. Mr Moon's giant mouth, which is the entrance to Luna Park, is one of Melbourne's most iconic landmarks. And no wonder, this gigantic amusement park has been thrilling crowds since it first opened in 1912. Offering a range of unique rides and attractions for the whole family, Luna Park, which is located on the St Kilda foreshore, is a must-see for anyone visiting the city.
As an historic amusement park, Luna Park in Melbourne still draws the crowds. There used to be five such amusement parks around Australia, but this is the only one that still operates. An institution in Melbourne, the park offers a number of fun age-old attractions, including the century-old Scenic Railway, the oldest continuously operating roller-coaster in the world, that offers great views of the beach area all the way towards the city. There's also the Penny Arcade, the beautiful Carousel and a number of live performances in the Palace of Illusions. Other draw cards include a Water Chute and Noah's Ark, as well as Dodgem Cars and a Ghost Train and modern attractions include the Crazy Coaster roller-coaster, the Spider, a Ferris Wheel and other thrilling mechanical rides. Luna Park also offers private functions and birthdays on the historic Party Tram, or in the meticulously restored Luna Palace function room.
