Standing near Plaza de Oriente and gawking alternatively between Royal Palace of Madrid and Almudena Cathedral is a natural desire. The Royal Palace of Madrid is a large imposing building which is the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family. The architectural style is said to be a blend of Baroque and Neoclassic. The palace covers a sprawling space and has over 3000 rooms. With paintings of Caravaggio, Velazquez and Goya, and many other frescos, this palace is one of the largest in Europe.
The adjacent, Almudena Cathedral, follows a similar colour scheme of the palace. This Catholic cathedral was consecrated by Pope John Paul II. The cathedral is quite spectacular from the inside as well.
