A centre square with myriad experiences on the offer – perhaps one of the busiest parts in the capital, Puerta de Sol is the main square. Translating to Gate of the Sun, historically it has been the eastern gate to the city. A short walk away from Plaza Mayor, the square is surprisingly semi-circular in shape.
Puerta de Sol continues to be the main hub for all celebrations in Madrid. From ushering in the New Year’s with the famous clock here, to conducting parades and special markets, this square has seen it all. This is also a junction where three Metro lines cross. Dotted with a plethora of souvenir shops, outdoor cafes, and restaurants, it is forever brimming with life. This square is a must experience for everyone travelling to Madrid.
