Beautiful art nouveau cinema

Word to the wise: While watching films is not necessarily a priority for all visitors, Cine Dore is a good place to visit between 6 and 9.30pm, when Madrid is at it's quietest.

This small but perfectly formed cinema is Madrid's ultimate destination for serious film lovers. Housed in a charming 1920s building perched above a steep hill in Lavapiés, its photogenic look saw it chosen as a location for Almodovar's film, 'Talk to Her'. Art house cinema is the programme's staple here, and the many original language films screened make its choices often accessible to non-Spanish speaking visitors.

Cine Dore's Screen 1 is its best looking auditorium, but on summer nights the cinema also opens the roofless Screen 3, where films are shown under the stars.
