Tranquil gardens and woodlands behind the Palacio Real

Noteworthy for: Campo del Moro has more than 70 arboreal species.

Madrid is one of the greenest cities in the world. And Campo del Moro, directly behind the Palacio Real on the eastern bank of Manzanares river, is one of the city’s most compelling natural spaces. This enormous garden was named after Ali Ben Yusut, a Muslim leader in the Middle Ages who tried to capture the fortress that is now the Royal palace.

Entering the park through an iron door on the Paseo de la Virgen del Puerto side, you’ll find yourself in a beautiful and serene English-style garden and natural woodlands decorated with two exquisite fountains - the 18th century Las Conchas designed by Ventura Rodríguez and Los Tritones, originally made for the palace in Aranjuez in 1657.
