Situated in the Banarasibag region, the State Museum Lucknow is one of the oldest museums in the city. A wide collection of prehistoric tools, manuscripts, paintings, coins, wood work, sculptures, bronze images, textiles and miniatures can be seen here. Initially, the place was only used to house Awadh arts and paintings but later, other excavated antiquities from the prehistoric era were also added to the museum. One of the major draws of the museum is the Egyptian mummy and wooden sarcophagus dating back to 1000 BC. Irrespective of whether you’re a history buff or not, you just can’t afford to miss out on the State Museum when visiting Lucknow.
