Lockdown effect: 5-star hotels are now offering home deliveries and takeaway services

The COVID-19 lockdown has forced businesses across the globe to take extreme measures to survive. One of the latest examples is of 5-star hotels, which are now offering home deliveries and takeaway services to customers.

In India, the prominent 5-star properties are doing their bit to help people during the lockdown. Recently, the famous hotel chain, Hilton has collaborated with Zomato and Swiggy for home delivery (contactless/cashless delivery).
The hotel, Hilton, has come up with a delivery-focussed menu across Indian cities with its signature dishes. Not only this, the price for these delicacies is also different when you order online.

According to Food & Beverage Director, Hilton India, they have been doing home delivery on a case to case basis for quite some time now. However, they started taking this delivery thing seriously after March 26 as the lockdown period extended. “We needed to find a way to efficiently reach our guests", he said.

He also said that takeaways and home delivery are the only ways to stay connected with their customers in the time of a pandemic. "While the actual experience of dining at the hotel cannot be replicated, we can still provide an experience relating the customer to fond memories of dining at the properties".

As of now, all the Hilton hotels are delivering food in Bangalore, Pune, Mumbai, Chennai, Jaipur, Gurgaon, Ahmedabad, Trivandrum and Delhi, to name a few.

This is happening not only in India but all over the world. Some luxury hotels in Bali and Bangkok are offering home deliveries as people cannot visit their restaurant right now.


Before this, several famous 5-star hotels in India jumped in to support the government in providing food to the poor and needy as well as medical workers fighting hard with the virus. Hotels such as the Taj West End and ITC Gardenia in Bengaluru used to send 1000 food packets on a daily basis for 15 days to the Municipal Corporation. ITC Maurya and Sheraton in New Delhi are providing meals every day to migrant workers; in Mumbai, ITC Grand Central has been delivering meals to doctors in several hospitals.
