Barranco District, Lima

SIGHTSEEING, LIMA Updated : Apr 7, 2017, 05.06 PM IST

Barranco District LimaBarranco isn’t a place frequented by tourists but it is one of our absolute favourite areas in Lima. The area is the most bohemian and charming part of the city of Lima—consider it the Shoreditch (London) or Greenwich (New York). Predictably, it is home to dozens of artists, painters, and musicians. You will see coffee shops, independent boutiques, and gorgeous restaurants at every corner. It is easy to get a finger-licking meal in the area. If you’re a party animal, Barranco also has a quirky nightlife and is home to many bars and clubs that are open into the wee hours of the morning.

The best way to explore artsy Barranco is to take a long walk. The area used to be a favourite residential district for Lima’s elite but today it is home to cute rows of colourful houses, charming lanes enveloped by tall trees, and some stunning street art. You will spot intricate street art pieces at every corner; don’t blame us if you want to stop every two minutes to click a photograph of a wall. The whimsical aura of the area is only heightened by vintage Beetles parked on the roads and little art studios along the way.
