A taste of old Krakow on the main square
Noteworthy for: Europejska is housed in the baroque Krzysztofory Palace, built for a prominent nobleman in the 17th century.
With its striped wallpaper, ornate mahogany bar and collection of antiques – including a fetching gramophone – you get the feeling Europejska hasn't changed much in a hundred years.
It offers refined Central and Eastern European dishes (rabbit in cream sauce, grilled trout) in an elegant setting, with unhurried but professional service. There's a good wine list too, and a range of classic cocktails.
It's hardly buzzing, but Europejska's genteel atmosphere and subdued lighting make it one of the more reliable options for a romantic meal.
