Built on the lines of London’s Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, Kolkata’s Mother’s Wax Museum opened its door to the public in November 2014. The first wax museum to be inaugurated in India, the Mother’s Wax Museum is definitely worth visiting. As of now, the museum houses 19 life-size statues of famous personalities from various backgrounds like films, science, sports and music. While the replica of Shah Rukh Khan looks on, the statue of Mamta Banerjee (West Bengal’s Chief Minister) seems to be smiling at him. Mithun Chakravarty’s statue is seen in his ‘disco dancer’ avatar while Sourav Ganguly and Kapil Dev’s statues seem to be posing perfectly at the cricket field. However, statues of Amartya Sen and Satyajit Ray are missing. Developed by WBHIDCO, the museum occupies the sixth floor of the New Town Financial Hub at Rajarhat. You not only get to hear narrations that recounts the achievements of each these icons but also get an opportunity to click selfies with each one of them. The first wax museum in the country, a visit to the Mother’s Wax Museum is a must while you are touring Kolkata.
