Word to the wise: The application AllBikesNow for iPhone and Android enables you to locate Villo! stations and gives information on available spaces and bikes in real time.

The idea behind Brussels' Villo! is simple yet incredibly effective. Pick up a bike at any time of day or night from one of the 180 self-service 'stations', cycle to your destination and return your bike to another station. Each station is just 450 metres apart and with around 2,500 bicycles you won't have a problem finding a free bike.
To hire a bike, you'll need to buy a one day (EUR 1.60) or seven day (EUR 7.50) ticket from a (card only) machine at any of the stations. You can use one bike for up to 24 hours but you can rent as many bikes as you like within the time frame of your ticket. The first 30 minutes is free, the second costs EUR 0.5 and every half hour afterwards costs EUR 2, for which your card will be charged at the end of the rental period.
