Pass as a porteño
Word to the wise: Taxis are cheap, and the safest way to get about the city at night.

This is a city in which they play hard and work hard. Porteños start their evening late eating around 10pm to 11pm. Get accustomed to later mealtimes unless you want to dine alone. Because of this, clubs don't get busy until well past midnight, peaking around 3am and most places don't close until breakfast. Sleep is for the weak.
Along with its party spirit, Argentina prides itself on being one of the most progressive of Latin American countries, and Buenos Aires the gay capital. The city recognised same-sex civil unions in 2003 and gay marriage has been legal since 2010, and there are many gay club nights and events across the city.

For single women, however, men can be sexually aggressive. You could be heckled with all manner of inventive come-ons. While this may make you feel uncomfortable at first, the attention is not meant to intimidate; it is just machismo, although expect wandering hands in clubs.
