Ramly Burger, TTDI

Back before burgers became trendy, Malaysians depended on Ramly burgers to satiate their bread-and-beef cravings. They were cheap, cheerful, and ubiquitous—almost every busy street corner with a brightly lit Seven Eleven sported a Ramly stall—and every local had a favourite outlet from amidst the multitude. Even today, despite the current obsession with gourmet burgers, the Ramly burger lives on as a local favourite, and will probably continue to flourish long after the trendsetters have come and gone. Fondly known as Otai—that’s ‘old timer’ in case you were wondering—the Ramly stall in front of the Seven Eleven in Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi is widely regarded as the star of the Ramly universe. The buns are soft and sweet, and the patties are luscious, tasty and wrapped in a fried egg before being doused with a multitude of sauces and topped with a slice of Kraft cheddar cheese; you’ll think you’ve gone to heaven, and all for less than RM5.
