Karnataka announces a 14-day “COVID curfew” starting today

Keeping in view the rising cases of COVID-19 positive cases, the government of Karnataka has announced a 14-day lockdown from today. The decision was taken after the state recorded the biggest rise of over 34000 new cases in 24 hours.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said, "COVID curfew will be implemented in the state from tomorrow 9 pm for the next 14 days." He used the term "close down" and said that only essential services will be allowed between 6 am and 10 am and all the shops will remain closed after that.
During this period, all schools, colleges, halls, theatres, gyms, bars, religious places and assembly halls will remain shut. Restaurants and liquor shops have been given permission for takeaway and delivery.

The CM further informed that no public transport will be available during the curfew time and that only construction, manufacturing and agriculture sectors will be allowed to work. No interstate or within the state travel will be permitted during this time except for emergencies.
"People will have to cooperate. If they do, we can achieve our target," the CM said.

The CM also talked about vaccinations and said that the government hospitals would provide free vaccinations for people between 18 and 44 years.

Till yesterday, Karnataka had recorded 34804 new virus cases.
