Kanva Dam in Ramanagara is a small waterbody 70kms from Bangalore town. It is about 8kms off Bangalore-Mysore Highway. Kanva dam is a very small sized dam built for irrigation purpose, but Kanva Reservoir rarely stocks water to its capacity and thus its vast bed is very popular among bikers and tourists as they can take their vehicles closer to water and click great pictures. But be cautious if you’re going alone, not to proceed unless you’re very sure that wheels won’t get stuck. Kanva river eventually joins Shimsa and then finally Kaveri river. Dam is surrounded by thick forests and many birds. Another 3 kms further is the Purushottama Theertha Cave temple, a pilgrimage cetre for Madva Brahmins. The famous rocks of Ramanagara, where Sholey was shot is a nearby destination. Do carry enough food and water as nothing can be purchased around the Kanva Dam.
