Talk of the town: Since it opened in 1999 it has helped turn a shabby neighbourhood into one of the hippest in the city.

Word to the wise: Babylon is closed in July and August.

Probably the city's best live music venue, its eclectic line-up includes everything from electronica to reggae, with world-famous jazz and rock artists from Coldplay to Gogol Bordello often taking to the stage especially during festival season.

Set in a former warehouse with industrial red-brick walls, it attracts a cool but friendly crowd. Beer is the tipple of choice but you can get decent cocktails too. Tickets can be bought from Biletix’s website and opening hours vary depending on the event or concert.
