Two of Japan’s famous old castles have been restored recently. Ozu Castle, which is a 14th century architecture, is absolutely gorgeous. Accommodation in this castle, which is in Ehime Prefecture, will be provided in the castle’s four-story tenshu (core tower), and is around five hours away from Osaka,. This grand castle sits on a hill above the Hijikawa River and looks absolutely mesmerising. It was in 2004 that the building was restored using 350-year-old Kiso Japanese cedar and timber.
The 30-day overnight program will be offered each year. The program includes a traditional gun-salute welcome, some folk dance performances along with Japanese delicacies.
As of now, the Ozu Castle is open for online reservations. It is expected to open to travelers by April 24, 2020. Also, do keep the price in mind, which is a whooping 1 million yen ($9168 or INR 655259) per couple.
Being on the Japanese Castle Foundation’s list of Top 100 Castles in the country, these two castles deserve the price. Also, Ozu and Hirado are the very first feudal fortresses in Japan to offer accommodation options.
