Former Nazi bunker in Germany is turning into a hotel, will be welcoming guests in 2021

A prominent hotel group has announced its plan of turning one of Germany’s former Nazi bunker into a luxury hotel. The Flakturm IV (Flak Tower IV) in Hamburg, a former Nazi bunker will soon be seen welcoming guests. The deluxe property will feature a lovely bar, cafe and restaurant along with a rooftop garden.
Built back in 1942, the bunker was designed to accommodate around 18000 people during air raids. Since 1945, the bunker has been in use regularly and over the past few decades, it has been home to around 40 media organisations. Hence, it is famous as ‘media bunker’ now. There are nightclubs and restaurants as well.

The proposed hotel is scheduled for the year 2021 and will feature a 5-storey roof garden; it will have 136 rooms and all the modern facilities. Developers also wish to make a memorial center for the Nazi victims in the premises.
This anti-aircraft bunker was among the biggest fortresses of Nazis during 1942. As per reports, there are 650 Nazi bunkers in Hamburg and during the Third Reich, there were more than 1051 bunkers in the city. But Flak Tower IV was chosen given its vastness and grandeur! This 35 m high fortress was built by forced labourers in response to allied air raids.

After the end of World War II, the bunker became home to music venues and nightclubs given the 3.5 m thickness of its walls. As per the builders, all these nightclubs and music stores, and media workspace will stay in the building itself but will be shifted to the lower floors of the property.
