We’re getting used to the idea of turning abandoned buildings into fascinating architectural masterpieces. The ION Hotel in Nesjavellir, Iceland was conceptualised by Santa Monica based design studio Minarc. They aimed at creating 'a hotel experience as dramatic and otherworldly as the natural Icelandic surroundings', and the hotel’s location on the rocky slopes of Mt. Hengill affords stunning views of Lake Thingvallavatn and the surrounding mountains.
