Hong Kong, Nigeria scrap COVID-19 travel rules for international travellers

In a latest development, all those arriving in Hong Kong will no longer receive an ‘amber’ code, which was issued earlier to bar them from entering some venues. This was informed by Chief Executive John Lee, while announcing a drop in the use of the government-mandated COVID-19 mobile application.

This means Hong Kong is further relaxing COVID-19 curbs, with the decision in line with other countries relaxing travelling restrictions. This move comes in the wake of boosting resumption of travel and business, as the said ‘amber’ code has also been removed that meant people had limited access to restaurants and bars.
If reports are to go by, the government’s move to scrap its mobility-tracking app that controlled the access of people to restaurants and venues such as gyms, clubs and salons, comes after mainland China dropped the requirement.

Earlier, diplomats, business groups, and residents had slammed Hong Kong’s COVID-19 rules, stating that the strict COVID rules threatened its competitiveness as well as its status as an international financial centre.
Reportedly, strict travel rules have been affecting Hong Kong's economy since early 2020, and the same is now expected to change for the better.

Meanwhile, Nigeria also removed COVID-19 testing requirements for international travellers, and it’s also no longer mandatory to wear masks on flights and inside airport buildings. Also, as per a notice to airlines, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority added that travellers to and from Nigeria will no longer be required to undergo COVID-19 irrespective of their vaccination status.
