Market stalls and department stores

Popular plate: Ice-cream – helado – is the shopper’s snack of choice here.

With Plaza Carlos III as the capitalist beacon of Havana, shops and stalls have grown up around it taking advantage of the crowds that flock here.

A rather depressing PanAmerica mall contrasts against the magnificent marble Iglesia de Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, but further down the street stalls start springing up, selling clothes, shoes, watches, sunglasses and underwear buzzing with shoppers looking for cut-price goods.
