Elephant’s Stables

SIGHTSEEING, HAMPI Updated : Aug 30, 2016, 04.17 PM IST

Elephants stables
One of the fairly well preserved and ‘least damaged’ sites in Hampi, this 15th century structure is rectangular and built in Indo-Islamic style. It was used as a stable for state elephants and has eleven dome-shaped chambers that are interconnected with large arch-shaped entrances. The remains of the structure near the central dome seem to suggest that there may have been a pillared pavilion on top. Metal hooks, probably used to tie elephants, can be seen in the interiors.
