Whether you’re a seasoned ornithologist, an amateur bird-watcher, or just someone looking for a chirpy weekend getaway from Gurgaon, the Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, located a mere 15 kilometres from the suburban city, makes a strong case. Verdant, home to over 250 species of birds, and encircling a pretty lake, the sanctuary is ideal even for just a day outing or a picnic with the family.

The area around the Sultanpur Lake was declared a water-bird reserve in 1972. Sprawling lawns, trees, shrubs and bougainvilleas dot the landscape of the park which also houses a small museum and library. The best time to visit is during the winter months when a large variety of migratory birds stop by on their annual south-bound flight.
