Walk towards the southern end of Om Beach and a narrow pathway leads past the last few shacks and then through the bushes into the hills. The trail goes over rocks and hills with spectacular vistas of the sea. A lone jutting coconut tree enroute is a popular vantage point that offers blissful vistas of the distant Om Beach and the blue sea that will leave you awestruck. The frames that this stretch provides are a delight for any photographer. The trail finally ends at the serene Half Moon Beach. Approachable only by trek or on a boat/catamaran, this small beach in the shape of a half moon is a secluded one and a heaven for solitude seekers. With hills on either side, it is more a cove with absolutely no commercial activities during off season. Even during the peak season, hardly a shack or a couple of tourists are the only signs of civilization here. The only means to spend time is to look at the waves, chase the crabs and gaze at the starlit sky in the night. Undoubtedly the best beach in Gokarna if solitude and ‘away from civilization’ is what your realm is.
